What this means for your procurement
Engaging a verified Aboriginal business counts toward:
- Commonwealth Indigenous Procurement Policy targets, including the Mandatory Set-Aside for procurements delivered in remote areas and for contracts valued between $80,000 and $200,000
- Direct engagement under Exemption 16 of the Commonwealth Procurement Rules, which permits Commonwealth buyers to purchase from Indigenous SMEs at any contract value
- Northern Territory Aboriginal Procurement Policy targets, which apply to Territory Government contracts valued at $15,000 or more
- Value for Territory assessment criteria covering local content, economic benefit to the Territory, and capability development
- Aboriginal participation requirements in head contracts and project participation plans
A note on integrity. Indigenous procurement only works if the benefit is real. We publish our ownership, our verification and our participation outcomes, and we welcome scrutiny of all three.

Aboriginal participation is easy to claim and harder to evidence. We treat it as a reportable outcome on every engagement.
On every package we deliver, we record and report
- Aboriginal people employed or engaged, and in what roles
- Aboriginal-owned subcontractors engaged, and contract value
- Local (Victoria River District and Big Rivers) subcontractor and supplier spend
- Training, mentoring or capability development delivered
- Community engagement undertaken
Why this matters to head contractors
If you carry Aboriginal participation obligations on a Northern Territory or Commonwealth contract, you need more than an Aboriginal-owned entity on an invoice. You need to be able to demonstrate to your client — and increasingly to a regulator — that participation was genuine, that Aboriginal people were employed, and that value flowed to Aboriginal businesses and communities.
